High-Density Call Emulation for Scalable Network Testing
Welcome to another edition of GL’s newsletter! Here, we discuss our High-Density Call Emulation Tools, which can emulate thousands of simultaneous phone calls over IP, TDM, and Analog networks. These solutions allow users to generate and analyze a large number of phone calls, replicating real-world traffic conditions in a controlled test environment.

Overview
Telecommunications networks are handling an increasing rate of voice, video, and data traffic. Service providers must systematically test their networks and services under high-traffic conditions to identify potential bottlenecks and performance limitations. Equipment manufacturers must also test their devices when subjected to large traffic loads. Customers, such as government agencies, must independently verify that the networks and services they are receiving match their expectations.
GL provides solutions to emulate thousands of simultaneous phone calls across IP, TDM, and Analog networks. Customers can load test infrastructure, monitor calls, and measure voice quality. GL provides GUI and scripting for call emulation. Furthermore, GL’s solutions are available in portable and rack-mount form factors. The solutions support all telecom protocols, including VoIP (SIP + RTP), ISDN, SS7, and Analog (FXO/FXS). GL also emulates fax calls over IP, TDM, and Analog.
High-Density Call Emulation for IP and Wireless Networks
Message Automation and Protocol Simulation (MAPS™) is GL’s framework for emulating IP, TDM, and Wireless protocols, with MAPS™ High-Density (HD) serving as an advanced RTP media generator for high-volume call emulation. It supports signaling and traffic generation for IP and Wireless networks, with optional licenses for SIP, GSM A, BICC, MGCP, and H.248/MEGACO, along with voice quality testing using E-model (R-factor) and MOS. Available as a rack-mount or lunchbox system with up to 8 x 1GigE interfaces, it generates up to 64,000 simultaneous phone calls per appliance.
High-Volume Call Traffic Emulation for TDM Networks
GL’s MAPS™ platform supports multiple TDM protocols, such as CAS, ISDN, SS7, FXO, FXS, MAP, CAP, INAP, and GSM, enabling the generation of large volumes of phone calls and traffic. By using GL's high-density network interface cards, users can achieve high call rates over these legacy networks. This makes it easier to test network performance under heavy traffic loads.
MAPS™ SS7
MAPS™ SS7 Protocol Emulator simulates high volumes of ISUP traffic over TDM networks. It supports automated stress and load testing through its Load Generation and Bulk Call Generation features, enabling users to quickly and efficiently generate large-scale call traffic.
This capability is essential for evaluating network performance, ensuring reliability, and optimizing capacity planning in SS7 environments. It supports multiple protocol standards, including ANSI, China, ETSI, ITU, and UK, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of network configurations and regulatory requirements.
MAPS™ ISDN
MAPS™ ISDN Protocol Emulator emulates ISDN signaling over TDM networks. It generates high volumes of ISDN traffic, facilitating comprehensive testing and analysis of ISDN networks. MAPS™ ISDN supports various ISDN signaling standards, including ITU-T Q.931, 5ESS, 4ESS, BELL, DMS-100, DMS-250, and QSIG ECMA, and can emulate signaling as per Q.921, referred to as LAPD (Link Access Protocol D Channel), a data link protocol used over ISDN's D channel.
MAPS™ CA
MAPS™ CAS Protocol Emulator emulates Channel Associated Signaling (CAS) calls to test network performance under stress conditions. By supporting various CAS signaling types, such as Loop Start, R1, MFC-R2, and Feature Group D (FGD), MAPS™ can generate numerous simultaneous calls, including DTMF/MF tones, signaling bits, and dialed digits, to evaluate the capacity and resilience of telecom systems.
Analog Call Emulation and Testing
MAPS™ Analog Phone Simulator (APS) is a high-capacity analog 2-Wire FXO/FXS or 4-Wire E&M bulk call generator designed to test Central Offices, PBXs, Telephone Adapters, Gateways, and other telecommunications equipment. It includes server hardware, GL MAPS™ software, channel banks, and optional modules for fax emulation and voice quality testing analysis, all within a compact rack-mount system. The MAPS™ APS system supports up to 96 independent FXO or FXS ports per server. For higher capacity, the system can be scaled up to support 384 analog ports.
