Press Release: GL Communications Incorporates Telchemy's IP Performace Analysis Solution into PacketScan™
Gaithersburg, MD and Suwanee, GA - October 19, 2005 - GL Communications Inc, a leading provider of test and measurement products for the telecom industry, and Telchemy® Incorporated, the global leader in VoIP fault and performance management technology, announced that GL Communications (GL) has integrated VQmon/SA™ VoIP performance analysis technology into its PacketScan™ real-time VoIP traffic analysis/monitoring tool. VQmon/SA™ provides non-intrusive Voice Quality Measurement and other enhancements to GL's comprehensive VoIP analysis products.
GL will incorporate Telchemy's market leading VoIP call quality monitoring technology into its packet telephony tools to support non-intrusive monitoring of live VoIP calls and active QoS control. Telchemy's technology will also enable PacketScan™ to report R-factor and MOS, along with delay, jitter, and gap for every RTP stream that is captured. Listening and Conversational Quality (MOS-LQ & MOS-CQ) scores will also be reported.
VQmon is the first VoIP Performance Management software to support the new VoIP management protocols, providing the essential metrics for the International Engineering Task Force (IETF) RFC 3611 (RTCP XR) media path reporting protocol and QoS reporting protocols for SIP, H.323, MGCP, Megaco and PacketCable. This will enable GL's PacketScan™ to analyze H.323 streams and RTP streams that may be established using proprietary signaling protocols.
"Voice transmission over packet networks continue to present challenging quality of service issues," said Vijay Kulkarni, President & Chief Technology Officer of GL Communications. "Incorporating VQmon/SA™ helps us provide to customers, a unique non-intrusive tool to accurately assess voice quality."
GL provides TDM, VoIP, and Wireless testing, analysis, and simulation products to the worldwide telecommunications industry. GL's voice and protocol testing tools encompass virtually all protocols (ISDN, SS7, GSM, ATM, CDMA etc.), codecs, and voiceband applications, including voice quality, echo cancellation, impairment simulation, and characterization.
"Telchemy and GL both share a strong commitment of providing leading VoIP monitoring and analysis solutions," said Alan Clark, President and CEO of Telchemy, Incorporated. "Integrating VQmon/SA™ into real-time VoIP analysis products provides GL with a reliable way of assessing the voice quality within VoIP networks."
VQmon/SA™ examines each voice packet, accurately predicts which packets would be lost or discarded using a jitter buffer emulator, measures the distribution of lost and discarded packets and produces accurate call quality scores (both MOS and R factor) and diagnostic data. Network operators and system administrators use Telchemy's VQmon technology to detect, monitor and resolve call quality and network related problems for networked multi-media services, including Voice and Video over IP and to support active QoS control applications such as call admission control.
