Press Release: GL Enhances PacketExpert™
A Wirespeed Ethernet/Packet Tester
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA - February 1, 2011 - GL Communications Inc. announced today the release of its enhanced PacketExpert™ " A quad port wirespeed Ethernet/Packet Tester. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Jagdish Vadalia said, "PacketExpert™ is a quad port wirespeed Ethernet/Packet Tester that supports 4 Electrical Ethernet Ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) and 2 Optical Ports (1000 Mbps). It connects to the PC through a USB 2.0 interface. Each GigE port provides independent Ethernet/IP testing at wirespeed for applications such as BERT, RFC 2544, and many more. The application has been enhanced with the following features:
- User-defined or auto-negotiated electrical ports that can operate at 10/100/1000 Mbps line rates in Full Duplex mode; optical ports can operate at 1000 Mbps line rate in full duplex mode only
- Resolve utility to easily configure MAC address (through ARP)
- PING utility to check remote IP address availability
He added, "The application truly takes confusion out of Ethernet testing at all protocol layers - from raw Ethernet to IP/UDP packets. It can be used as a general purpose Ethernet performance analysis for 10/100 Mbps or 1 Gbps Ethernet local area networks. Two of the 4 ports have both Electrical and Optical interfaces, enabling testing on optical fiber links also".
Mr. Vadalia explained, "Wirespeed BERT with traffic generation measures Bit Error Rate on Raw unframed Ethernet (Layer1), Framed Ethernet (Layer2), and IP and UDP layers. It supports generating various PRBS patterns such as 29-1, 211-1, 215-1, 220-1, 223-1, 229-1, and 231-1 including constant patterns such as All Ones, All Zeroes, Alternate Ones-Zeroes and user-defined test patterns ranging from 1 bit to 32 bits. PacketExpert™ supports user-defined options to configure Ethernet/IP/UDP header parameters, including VLAN, Frame Size, and Rate and it analyzes the received BER traffic and provides various vital measurements such as Bit Error Rate, Bit Error Count, Bit Error Seconds, Sync Loss Count, Sync Loss Seconds, Error Free Seconds, No Rx Data Count/Seconds, and Bert Status. Bit Error Count is displayed in both Tabular and Graphical formats".
He also added, "The application supports Throughput, Latency, Frame Loss and Back to Back test as specified in RFC 2544. Similar to BERT, RFC 2544 can be performed over Framed Ethernet (Layer2), IP or UDP. It includes various parameter configurations such as Test Selection, Frame Sizes, Unidirectional/Bidirectional, Number of trials, Trial Duration, and many more. User-defined options to configure various packet header parameters, like MAC addresses, IP addresses, UDP ports etc. Results are displayed in both tabular as well as graphical format".
Important Features
- Quad port Gigabit Ethernet tester, generate/receive Ethernet traffic at wirespeed.
- Wirespeed BERT over Raw unframed Ethernet (Layer1), Framed Ethernet (Layer2), IP and UDP on single port (BERT over multiple ports is coming very soon)
- Throughput, back-to-back, latency and frame loss testing as per RFC 2544 for Uni-directional and Bi-Directional traffic between ports.
- BERT - supported PRBS patterns are 29-1, 211-1, 215-1, 220-1, 223-1, 229-1, and 231-1 and User Defined test patterns ranging between 1 to 32 bits
- Bit Error Insertion for both single as well as Rate Error
- Generates detailed reports in PDF format for both BERT and RFC 2544
- Portability through a USB 2.0 Interface
- 2 ports have Electrical and optical interfaces. User option provided to switch from electrical to optical and vice versa.
- Detailed frame statistics per port.
- Loopback capability for incoming traffic. Both smart loopback (auto loopback) and user-defined loopback capability supported.
- Support for frame lengths from 64 bytes to Jumbo frames (upto 2048 bytes).
- Capability to modify various header parameters for MAC, IP and UDP layers.
About GL Communications Inc
Founded in 1986, GL Communications Inc. is a leading supplier of test, monitoring, and analysis equipment for TDM, Wireless, IP and VoIP networks. Unlike conventional test equipment, GL's test platforms provide visualization, capture, storage, and convenient features like portability, remotability, and scripting.
GL's TDM Analysis & Emulation line of products includes T1, E1, T3, E3, OC-3, OC-12, STM-1, STM-4, analog four-wire, and analog two-wire interface cards, external portable pods, and complete system solutions. Capabilities include voiceband traffic analysis and emulation across all traffic types (voice, digits, tones, fax, modem), all protocols (ISDN, SS7, GR-303, Frame Relay, HDLC, V5.X, ATM, GSM, GPRS, LTE, etc.), and with capacities up to thousands of channels. Our newest products provide astonishing capacity and capture capability up to and including gigabit speeds.
GL's VoIP and IP products generate / analyze thousands of calls and traffic simultaneously with traffic types such as frames, packets, voice files, digits, video, tones, noise, and fax. Almost all codecs are supported including G.711, G.729, AMR, EVRC-A,B,C, GSM, iSAC, and many more. Additional features include visual analysis, real-time listening, and recording. The product line also includes Ethernet / IP Testing capability that simulates and checks frame transport and throughput parameters of Ethernet and IP networks, including delay, errors and other impairments.
GL's Voice Quality Testing (VQT) product line complements all of GL's products. Using ITU-standard algorithms (PAMS, PSQM, and PESQ), GL's VQT provides a widely accepted solution for assessing voice quality in the telecom industry. Voice Quality Testing across multiple networks (T1, E1, T3, E3, OC-3, OC-12, VoIP, Wireless, and Landline) are all available.
GL's Wireless Products perform protocol analysis and voice quality assessment on GSM, CDMA, UMTS, and LTE networks. Connections can be made to any wireless phone with automated call control, GPS mapping and real-time signal measurements.
GL's Echo Canceller testing solutions provide the broadest range of simulation and analysis, including line and acoustic echo. GL's compliance testing per G.168. G.167 and P.340 across TDM, IP, VoIP and Wireless networks is widely accepted in the industry.
GL's wireless VQT solutions help assessing impairments to voice quality such as poor mobile phone quality, voice compression and decompression algorithms, delay, loss and gain in speech levels, noise, acoustic and landline echo, and other distortions are easily assessed and accurately measured.
GL's Handheld data testers can test a wide variety of communications facilities and equipment including T1, fractional T1, E1, fractional E1, T3 and E3 modems, multiplexers, CSU, DSUs, T1 CSUs, DTUs, NTUs and TIUs and more.
