New DCOSS Routing Options Include SS7 TCAP, Automated Attendant, Busy Call

Gaithersburg, Md.- May 13, 2002 - GL Communications Inc. today announced the addition of SS7 TCAP Routing, Busy Call Routing and Automated Attendant Routing to the flexible, comprehensive testing solutions the company offers. Service providers, switch builders and gateway providers can now easily use these new options with GL's Digital Central Office Switch Simulator (DCOSS). GL Communications is a leading, international provider of PC-based telecommunications test, analysis and simulation products.

"GL offers unmatched flexibility in the routing methods that may be used to test all types of communications networks, including emergency networks where accurate, immediate call routing is complex and critical."

Each routing option can be easily configured within minutes using the DCOSS graphical user interface and a simple step-by-step process. DCOSS can simulate both ends or just a single end of a complex switching network, such as SS7, with a variety of internal and external traffic generators. Users can configure complex switching solutions simply and economically while providing total voice/data throughput.

Routing options now included in the GL DCOSS are:

  • Phone Routing

    By using the DCOSS, a call can be placed from an analog phone and, based on the area code, prefix or entire number dialed, automatically switched to a channel and timeslot configured by the user. If the user-specified channel is unavailable, the call may either continue on the original channel or discontinue and return a busy signal. The DCOSS user also has the flexibility to set up user-defined hunt groups.

  • SS7 TCAP Routing

    With the new SS7/TCAP routing option, the DCOSS user can employ the complex SS7 switching protocol to identify a called number and match it to a specific trunk, channel or timeslot. SS7 is becoming the protocol of choice for basic call setup, wireless services, local number portability, toll-free and toll wireline services, enhanced call features and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). DCOSS enables users to keep pace, by providing the ability to test and simulate SS7 networks.

  • Switch Routing

    Switch Routing allows DCOSS to act as a true central office switch and provide throughput over the entire call using two modes of operation. Based on the called or calling number, DCOSS will switch the incoming call to a user-specified timeslot or channel. And with Dedicated Switch Routing, based on the timeslot or channel the call comes in on, DCOSS will switch the incoming call to another user-specified channel. DCOSS enables users to test complex networks by allowing protocol conversion to take place. For example, a call might come into the DCOSS via SS7 protocol and be sent out using PRI ISDN, or vice versa.

  • Automated Attendant Routing

    This new option allows a user to easily configure DCOSS to automatically answer a call, play a series of user-defined prompts, and employ number recognition in order to gather information, identify errors and fully test an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. Based on the number entered, DCOSS routes the call to another specified telephone number. In other words, with Automated Attendant Routing the DCOSS user can build an elaborate functionality, comparable to using a human attendant, into the system using GL's easy-to-follow instructions.

  • Busy Call Routing

    If a call is placed from DCOSS to another switch and receives a busy signal, DCOSS will attempt to reestablish the call on another or on the same channel, as designated by the user. The DCOSS may also be configured to change the telephone number it is attempting to reach.
