Press Release: GL Offers Complete Voice Quality Testing Solutions
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA - September 1, 2004 - GL Communications Inc, today announced the release of a comprehensive set of Voice Quality Testing Solutions for PSTN, Wireless, and VoIP networks. Test Engineers can now efficiently test voice quality with common platform and common software, thereby avoiding purchasing dedicated software and equipment for various technologies. The test tools provide the means of sending and receiving speech signals thru various network interfaces. VQT (Voice Quality Testing) software then rates the transmissions using ITU standard algorithms of PAMS, PSQM, PESQ/LQ, and PESQ/LQO. Mean Opinion Score (MOS), speech level, noise level, echo, and other distortions common to voice transmissions are measured and provided automatically, remotely, and repetitively as required by the end user.
GL Communications is a company that has traditionally provided the high quality test and simulation equipment for telecom test engineers. "Voice Quality continues to be the most important metric for any network, whether the underlying technology is PSTN, Wireless, or VoIP." said Vijay Kulkarni, CEO of GL Communications. "Our tools provide a complete and comprehensive solution for testing voice quality in an end-to-end manner, irrespective of the network technology. Common platforms and software make our tools extremely intuitive and easy to use."
Wireless - GL's wireless solutions (AFT - Automated File Transceiver Software combined with VQT - Voice Quality Test Software) allows wireless network providers and equipment manufacturers to quantify impairments in a consolidated, unified, and "end-to-end" manner. Impairments to voice quality such as poor mobile phone quality, voice compression and decompression algorithms, delay, loss and gain in speech levels, noise, acoustic and landline echo, and other distortions are easily assessed and accurately measured.
GL's wireless testing solution is compact and portable consisting of two notebook PC's utilizing AFT and VQT software packages and a few hardware accessories. Independent locations connected to the wireless network via mobile phones can be easily configured for sending reference voice files and recording the received degraded file, thus allowing end-to-end path analysis. The AFT GUI acts as the engine for synchronously transmitting and recording voice files ("reference" and "degraded" files) across a wireless connection. Automatic synchronization, automation, remoting, GPS, and time-stamping features provide added flexibility.
VoIP - GL's PacketGen™ and PacketScan™ products provide a complimentary set of tools for stress testing, monitoring, and analysis of VoIP network elements. Voice transmission over packet networks present challenging quality of service issues - including echo, delay, voice clipping, and other impairments due to lost or jittered packets. These problems are exacerbated even further during high loads or high degree of voice compression. Consequently, testing Voice Quality over VoIP has become increasingly important. Adequate tools for creating stress conditions and characterizing and measuring impairments are also essential. PacketGen™ and PacketScan™ provide this comprehensive set of capabilities.
PSTN - GL's voice quality testing solution for PSTN consists of two solutions for testing analog 2-wire interfaces: GL's VQuad™ with Analog option and GL's DCOSS APS (Analog Phone Simulator). The ATS provides a low capacity (up to 4) analog 2-wire interface solution, while GL's DCOSS APS provides a high capacity (up to 384) analog 2-wire interface solution. Both solutions provide for automatic call establishment and teardown, sending and recording of voice files, and automatic analysis of voice quality with VQT software.
