Newsletter: GL Enhances DCOSS Simulation System

Welcome to another July 2009 issue of GL's Newsletter providing information and insight into our products. This time we highlight the DCOSS Simulation System - a single platform that supports traffic and signaling testing of TDM, VoIP, 2-Wire, and BRI networks. Large volumes of traffic of any type can be simulated including: voice, fax, modem, tones, and dual tones. Signaling flexibility spans from ISDN, SS7, CAS, MFC-R2, SIP, H.323, Loop start, ground start, Fax and Modem signaling, and many many more.

The main feature of the Digital Central Office Switch Simulator (DCOSS) is the ease with which it can be operated removing the complexity of configuration and signaling setups associated with other simulators. The system can be up and running within minutes creating loads of hundreds to thousands of calls. However simplicity does not preclude complexity. If the user so desires, she (he) can use the inherent power of the DCOSS to create the most complex calling scenario possible.

TDM Networks

The DCOSS supports a variety of different TDM protocols including PRI ISDN, SS7, and CAS. All variants of these protocols are supported. Large T1 E1 networks with traffic can easily be simulated.

2-Wire with APS

The DCOSS with 2 Wire Analog Phone Simulator (APS) can generate/receive analog calls to connect to the PSTN, ATAs, or Gateways. Once the call is established, the APS can send/receive fax, modem, voice files, DTMF/MF digits and Single/Dual Frequency Tones. The APS also supports all supplementary call control features (3-way calling, call forwarding, call transfer).

VoIP with Media Gateway

The DCOSS with a Media Gateway front end provides full support for VoIP protocols including SIP, H.323, Megaco, MGCP, and T.38 fax. Using the DCOSS GUI or remote client, both VoIP and TDM calls can be established manually or automatically (Bulk Calling). Once the call is established a variety of traffic can be generated including fax, modem, voice, digits, and tones.

DCOSS with BRI Subscriber / Network

The DCOSS can connect to BRI Networks as either terminal (BRI phone) or the Network. The DCOSS BRI simulation supports up to 60 BRI terminal phones and up to 16 BRI ST-Interface Network connections. Both the BRI Terminal simulation and the BRI Network simulation supports 1 D-Channel + 2 B-Channels and Automated Bulk Calling with a variety of different traffic (Fax, Modem, Voice File, Digits and Tones). The BRI Terminal simulation also supports all supplementary call control features (3-way calling, call forwarding, call hold, call transfer).

Some of the Important Features

  • T1 E1, 2-Wire, Ethernet, and BRI lines and trunks
  • Call capacity from hundreds to thousands of calls simultaneously (scalable depending on configuration selected)
  • Voice, Fax, Modem, and Tones Generation and Reception
  • Remote Access including full support for SDK (great for regression testing)
  • Call Monitoring and Recording
  • Automatic Bulk Call Generation/Reception for Load Testing
  • Bulk Call Scripting
  • Call Statistics and Call Detail Records
  • Save/Load all parameters as user-defined configurations
